Why are you’re seeing this message?
We use a handful of signals to protect creators and the community from spam, abuse, and exploit patterns. Sometimes those signals suggest that multiple Crowd Control accounts are being used by the same person (or from the same device/network). When that happens, we group those accounts together and show an “alternate account” message to some of them.
This does not mean you’ve done anything wrong. It simply means our systems think several accounts are closely linked.
What signals we look at
To keep the system fair (and hard to game), we keep this list intentionally high level. Typical signals include:
- Device / browser fingerprint clues (e.g., consistent browser, hardware, and network characteristics)
- Recent activity relationships (e.g., sessions that appear to come from the same device or environment)
- Overlapping usage patterns (e.g., accounts created or used in quick succession from the same place)
- Account connections (e.g., coin exchanges and session metadata that link accounts)
Why accounts sometimes get grouped by mistake
Households, shared devices, schools, gaming cafés, VPNs, and public Wi-Fi can legitimately make different people look similar to a computer. That can land multiple people in the same “group” even if they’re unrelated.
When our system detects a group of related accounts, we select one as the primary account.
If we’ve made a mistake with identifying your primary account, or you feel that you do not have alternative accounts. No worries, see How to get this fixed below.
What being an “alternate” account means
- You can still log in and use Crowd Control.
- Some actions may be limited to protect creators from abuse (for example, free coin claims).
If you believe your account is incorrectly grouped, you can request a review.
How to get this fixed (appeal & review)
We know that mistakes can happen, some users will get flagged wrong or we’ll get the primary account wrong. In these cases we ask that you follow these steps when reaching out on our Discord support system.
- Join our Discord and get a Crowd Control Role
- Use the #questions-n-help channel to create a Private Ticket
- Provide the login names and accounts that are affected and what the issue is in your ticket
Our team will review and, if appropriate, correct account so you won’t see the message anymore.
Common Questions
“I’m not using alts—why am I flagged?”
Shared networks/devices can link unrelated people. That’s why we offer a review process.
“Will I be banned?”
No. An “alternate account” notice by itself is not a ban. Separate policies apply to abuse or fraud, however you could get banned if you continue to create alternate accounts.
“Can I pick which account is the main one?”
During review, yes. Follow the steps in the how to get this fixed and tell us which account you use as your primary. We’ll try to honor that while keeping the ecosystem safe.
“Does purchasing coins help?”
We consider paid support for creators as one positive signal when choosing the primary account, but it’s not required.
